Classroom Methodologies for Teaching and Learning Ordinary Differential Equations: A Systemic Literature Review and Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: In this paper, we develop a review of the research focused on the teaching and learning of ordinary differential equations with the following three purposes: to get an overview of the existing literature of the topic, to contribute to the integration of the actual knowledge, and to define some possible challenges and perspectives for the further research in the topic. The methodology we followed is a combination of a systematic literature review and a bibliometric analysis. The contributions of the paper are g… Show more

“…Bibliometric analysis has been widely used to analyse scientific evolution of various research fields such as higher education (Hallinger & Chatpinyakoop, 2019), sustainable development (Hallinger & Nguyen, 2020), lifelong learning (Thi-Trinh et al, 2021), social sciences (Pham et al, 2020), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education (Ha et al, 2020) and mathematics education (Julius et al, 2021;Lozada et al, 2021;Özkaya, 2018). However, the application of these bibliometric tools to mathematical educational research is rare (Drijvers et al, 2020).…”

“…The outer layer of the threelayer model is developmental research inquiry and this commonly involves studying research literature on the subject of interest. The most recent literature review about teaching and learning of differential equations was published by Lozada et al (2021).…”

“…Entre los trabajos previos que buscan incoorporar el uso de paquetes computacionales en la enseñanza de las ecuaciones diferenciales ordinarias, podemos mencionar el de Lozada et al [7] quienes realizaron una revisión sistemática de la literatura en las metodologías para enseñar y aprender ecuaciones diferenciales ordinarias. En su revisión identifican una transición de la enseñanza tradicional hacia un enfoque cualitativo y numérico con métodos interactivos, modelación y el uso de la tecnología.…”
