“…Few studies have reported the agreement between youth-assessed puberty using the PDS and clinicianassessed puberty [13,14,27,28]. Furthermore, comparing the current study to those in the literature is problematic owing to the use of different agreement statistics and to the use of five-point over three-point puberty development scales.…”

“…Two recent studies reported agreement between youth-assessed puberty using the PDS and clinicianassessed puberty use a three-point scale for puberty similar to the current study. One study conducted in the USA reported a moderate strength of agreement (κ = 0.57; 95% CI: 0.49-0.66), but this kappa coefficient was unweighted and not stratified by sex thereby limiting the sex-wise comparison to the current study [27]. Conversely, a Brazilian study reported high levels of agreement but used intraclass correlation coefficients of 0.82 for boys (95% CI: 0.70-0.90) and of 0.81 for girls (95% CI: 0.70-0.89) [13].…”

“…The Puberty development scale (PDS) was used to evaluate the puberty development at each investigation. Puberty category scores (PCS) were calculated according to the total scores of three items including menarche (score 0 or 1, namely “without or with”), breast development (score 1 to 5), and body hair growth (score 1 to 4) ( 23 ).…”

“…The PBS has adequate validity and reliability. The internal consistency ranges between 0.91 and 0.96 and the test–retest reliability was 0.81–0.92 (Koopman‐Verhoeff et al., 2020). The PBS was used for classifying each subject from MA and CA in two groups: pre‐, early‐, and midpuberty (for boys—PBS = 3–8; for girls—PBS = 2–3 and no menarche) versus late‐ and postpuberty (for boys—PBS: 9–12; for girls—PBS = 7–8 and menarche).…”
