Classification of Pepper Seeds Using Data Mining Algorithms

Abstract: This paper is about separating the two classes of pepper seeds namely the bell pepper and the chili pepper. This paper used the same dataset from the previous study obtained using image processing. The image processing process was not repeated instead the extracted features namely the area , equivalent diameter , perimeter and roundness were used. The four features were subjected for classification using the 23 classifiers in the MATLAB Classification Learner App. Among the 23 classifiers, the best in terms of… Show more

“…A similar study [7] on bell pepper and pimiento seeds produced better results, as the differences between these two species are already visible to the eye. They achieved a score of 89.2 using the SVM and 100 using the KNeighbors and tree classifiers.…”

“…In any case, it can be very challenging to distinguish between different types of pepper based on their seeds, as they have similar morphologies [7,8]. This creates a problem of mislabeling on the market.…”

“…Methods based on optical sensors combined with machine learning algorithms can be used for the evaluation and classification of seeds (Medeiros et al, 2020). Machine vision can be an alternative for the human eye, which may have difficulty distinguishing between pepper seeds belonging to different species (Jesusimo & Dioses, 2020). So, the discrimination of cultivars of pepper seeds may be even more difficult.…”
