“…Kim (1987) suggested that diagnostic taxonomies appeared to unify communication and documentation among nurses, yet did not enhance the development of nursing science due to the lack of an explanatory framework. From 1973 to the present, members of NANDA, supported by other nursing authors, sought to remove non-compliance from the nursing diagnostic nomenclature because it emphasized a paternalistic obligation to follow orders rather than a collaborative agreement between patients and healthcare providers (Kim & Moritz 1982, Bakker et al 1997, Bradley-Springer 1998, Murphy & Canales 2001. Gilbert et al (1980) measured clinicians' ability to detect non-compliance among patients under their care, and revealed that clinicians were accurate with only 10% of patients.…”
