Classification of natural rubber foam grades by optimising the azodicarbonamide content

Abstract: This study aimed to focus on classifying rubber foam grades according to ASTM D1056. The natural rubber foams were prepared by varying the Azodicarbonamide (ADC) content from 2 -10 phr. The results were evaluated on their physical and mechanical properties. The relative foam density of the foams decreased, and the expansion ratio increased with the addition of ADC. This was due to the increase in the gas phase raised by ADC. In addition, adding ADC also decreased hardness and compression-deflection of the foam… Show more

“…Hence, cell size plays a crucial role in the compression set test. Conversely, Baru et al 35 suggested that increasing levels of blowing agents, such as ADC, lead to greater porosity and larger cell sizes, consequently increasing the compression set. The addition of blowing agents can reduce the cell wall area per surface, which predominantly controls the elastic response.…”

“…Treated distillate aromatics extract (TDAE oil) was used as processing oil. Processing oil can help to reduce the viscosity and facilitate the diffusion of gas [ 15 ]. TDAE oil was purchased from H&R ChemPharm (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ) was obtained from Krungthepchemi Co., Ltd., Bangkok, Thailand.…”
