Classification, Characterization and Comparison of Aquatic Ecosystems in the Landscape of Adilabad District, Telangana, Deccan Region, India

Abstract: A landscape is a mosaic of natural and/or artificial communities and waterbodies and may contain several distinct ecosystems. Human life depends on many services delivered by the water-based aquatic and land-based terrestrial ecosystems. A wide variety of aquatic ecosystems exist and although they represent a low percentage of the Earth's surface, their roles and functions make them crucial. Aquatic ecosystems especially inland aquatic ecosystems are rich in biodiversity and home to a diverse array of species … Show more

“…All ocean basins act as ecologically and economically important systems for the betterment of humans. Freshwater lotic systems connect with oceans and seas, creating unique, transitional ecosystems like lagoons and estuaries ( Reddy et al., 2018 ). The continental shelf of the marine environment is the mixing place of seawater and freshwater; therefore, this area creates a unique coastal ecosystem.…”

“…Whereas such variation, strongly combine the quality characteristics to make the healthy habitat of running waters compare to still waters. Flow of water should be unidirectional also observed that spatial and temporal heterogeneity in all the scales (microhabitats) in potent level and high degree [8].…”

“…Dry season disturb the fauna and flora which occurs in both the aqua system globally and it can be strongly affect the communities. Whereas the drying effect depends on ecosystem and their relationship with local species ability strengthens the community, dryness is completely different with climate and their community responses between lentic and lotic water system comparatively [8].…”

“…West Bengal has more than 150 floodplain lakes encompassing a segment of 42,000 ha, accounting for around 22% of the entire state's freshwater habitat (ICAR, 2006) [6] . Limnology is the prime factor to determine the health status of any aquatic body (Reddy et al, 2018) [8] . Seasonal fluctuations on limnology have a great impact on the hydrological status of aquatic body (Alaez et al, 2006) [9] .…”
