Classical glasses, black holes, and strange quantum liquids

Abstract: From the dynamics of a broad class of classical mean-field glass models one may obtain a quantum model with finite zero-temperature entropy, a quantum transition at zero temperature, and a timereparametrization (quasi-)invariance in the dynamical equations for correlations. The low eigenvalue spectrum of the resulting quantum model is directly related to the structure and exploration of metastable states in the landscape of the original classical glass model. This mapping reveals deep connections between class… Show more

“…This is a very fascinating topic that has boomed in recent years; new phenomena such as Many-Body Localization [469] and Quantum Scars [470] have been discovered, revealing new facets of slow dynamics. Models of classical glasses, such as the KCMs and the p-spin models found new applications in this arena [471,472].…”

“…It would be worthwhile to treat the dynamics directly. It was argued recently, in a somewhat different context, that dynamics can be used to make a natural connection between classical disordered systems and quantum field theory [20].…”

“…This corresponds to consider only pure shear deformations which are volume-preserving. The full non-linear elastic response can be studied by looking at the expectation value of the stress tensor operator T xy ≡ σ = 3 2 C 3 in function of the external mechanical strain ε = 2 sinh (Ω/2). Moreover, one could extend the analysis to the out-of-equilibrium time-dependent dynamics as initiated in 64 .…”
