Claiming the Hispanic-Serving Identity: A Content Analysis of Enrollment, Completion, and How Research 1 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) Communicate Their HSI Designation
Abstract:This paper examines the enrollment and completion trends of undergraduate and graduate Latinx/a/o students at R1 Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). Using frameworks specific to understanding HSIs, we examine how Latinx/a/o enrollment has grown at HSI R1s, how these institutions communicate their institutional identity as HSIs, and how students grapple with this designation through student-run newspapers.
