Abstract:Magnesium ions are highly enriched in early stage of biological mineralization of hard tissues. Paradoxically, hydroxyapatite (HAp) crystallization is inhibited significantly by high concentration of magnesium ions. The mechanism to regulate magnesium‐doped biomimetic mineralization of collagen fibrils has never been fully elucidated. Herein, we revealed that citrate could bio‐inspire the magnesium‐stabilized mineral precursors to generate magnesium‐doped biomimetic mineralization as follows: Citrate could enh… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
