Citizen Science

Abstract

Citizen science reflects the public participation of non‐institutional, non‐accredited science enthusiasts and communities who contribute to scientific knowledge and research through their voluntary participation. Citizen scientists work in tandem with expert researchers in making and recording observations with geographical spaces over extended periods of time, processing big data, classifying visuals and tagging, and assembling transcriptions of audio texts among others. The participation of citizens is integral to the development of prevention programs, healthcare resources, and health infrastructure, among others.
