Citation analysis of randomized experiments in criminology and criminal justice: a research note

Abstract: In recent years multiple studies have used citation analysis as a way to examine the most cited scholars and works in criminology and criminal justice and its subfields. This study is the first to focus on the most cited randomized experiments in criminological research. Using citation counts from both Social Science Citation Index and Google Scholar, and multiple sources of randomized experiments, I present the most cited experiments in six areas: policing, courts, corrections, schools, community, and early p… Show more

“…It allows researchers to search a diverse range of resources including books, theses, articles, university publications, and academic publishers for citations to a particular publication. Because of its wide coverage, the database has been used previously by researchers to locate research pertaining to a particular topic (Telep, 2009). As such, we decided to use it ourselves to conduct our own research.…”

“…Interest in the use of experimental methods is high, and several randomized experiments in criminology and criminal justice have been conducted in agencies representing the subareas of policing, courts and sentencing, corrections, community, schools, and early prevention (Telep, 2009; see also Farrington, Ohlin, & Wilson, 1986). While these subareas and their respective agencies that serve offending populations are important traditional domains that address criminal justice topics, administrative agencies are often overlooked entities.…”
