Circulating serum levels of angiopoietin-1 and angiopoietin-2 in nasopharynx and larynx carcinoma patients

Abstract: We aimed to determine the serum levels of angiogenic factors, namely angiopoietins, in nasopharyngeal and laryngeal carcinoma patients. We also aimed to seek the relation of these molecules with tumor grade and their utility as diagnostic biomarkers. We evaluated angiopoietin 1 and 2 levels innasopharynx and larynx cancer patients before treatment. Angiopoietin 2 levels were significantly elevated in larynx carcinoma patients and tended to be elevated in nasopharynx cancer patients compared with healthy contro… Show more

“…Ang-1 expression quantified by mRNA was shown to correlate with tumor vascularity in previous reports [24]. In addition, circulating levels of Ang-1 have demonstrated prognostic correlation in other cancers, such as cervical, peritoneal mesothelioma, and nasopharynx and larynx carcinomas [4749].…”

“…ANGPT1 (angiopoietin 1) and ANGPT2 (angiopoietin 2) belong to the angiopoietin family. Members of this family play important roles in vascular development, and are correlated with tumor stage, disease progression, or metastasis ( 20 ). CCL13 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 13) and CXCL1 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1) are chemokines that play important roles in the initial step of inflammation and angiogenesis ( 21 , 22 ).…”

“…ANGPT1 in uences the timing of hematopoietic stem cell mobilization in patients with hematological malignancies and correlates with the number of circulating endothelial cells (Szmigielska-Kaplon et al 2015). Serum levels of ANGPT1 were signi cantly higher in patients with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma than that in early-stage disease progression (Guveli et al 2016). In the ovarian cancer microenvironment, ANGPT1 stimulate cancer cell proliferation and accumulate cancer-associated broblasts and tumour angiogenesis (Brunckhorst et al 2014).…”
