Circularly polarized wave beamforming using one‐dimensional Fresnel zone plate

Abstract: This letter entails a methodology to steer circularly polarized (CP) wave main beam in the near‐field region. The letter first demonstrates a planar circular polarizer which can convert an incoming linearly polarized wave into a CP wave from 24.0 to 40.0 GHz. Afterwards a one‐dimensional Fresnel zone plate consisting of electrically opaque and transparent regions is devised to formulate constructive interference for CP near‐field beamsteering at 22°. Measurement ascertains that the axial ratio and TE/TM phase … Show more

“…Many methods have been presented in the literature to produce broadband circularly polarized (CP) radiation. [1][2][3] The microstrip CP slot antennas get much attention due to providing relatively broad impedance matching and CP bandwidth while retaining a small size. The slot antenna schemes are usually implemented by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed and a microstrip topology.…”

“…The operation of traditional patch antennas is affected by the inherent narrow axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of them. Many methods have been presented in the literature to produce broadband circularly polarized (CP) radiation 1–3 . The microstrip CP slot antennas get much attention due to providing relatively broad impedance matching and CP bandwidth while retaining a small size.…”
