Circularly Polarized Spidron Fractal Slot Antenna Arrays for Broadband Satellite Communications in Ku-Band

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, a novel circularly polarized Spidron fractal slot antenna array developed for broadband satellite communication in the Ku-band is discussed. A Spidron fractal slot configuration was utilized as a single radiating element to achieve circularly polarized radiation. The effects of altering the feeding position on the resonance behavior and the radiative characteristics were assessed. As a consequence, the design was expanded from a single element to a 2×2 subarray and further to a 4×4 array… Show more

“…The triple-band CP operation can be realized by utilizing a Spidron fractal slot, a Z-shaped slit, and two L-shaped slits, which are etched from the ground plane. One of the present authors previously proposed a Spidron fractal slot antenna with single band CP operation [24,25]. In this work, a Spidron fractal system is formed from a series of contiguous right-angled triangles with identical angular factor (α).…”

“…Alternative research [11,12] has produced bent slot and wide slot antennas with parasitic patch. Single-fed wideband circularly polarized slot antennas have also been reported [8,13,14], but the acquired gain is only about 3.5 dB. Besides patch antenna, printed slot antenna can also work in a wider bandwidth.…”
