Circularly polarized beam steering array antenna fed by low magnitude and phase error response of Butler matrix to use pattern stabilization applications

Abstract: In this work, a novel circularly polarized (CP) Fabry-Perot resonator beamsteering antenna array with capability covering C-band applications is introduced. The proposed antenna array caters to a relatively constant high gain at a broadband impedance bandwidth in comparison with conventional arrays. The presented antenna is designed based on a broadband Butler matrix feeding network which is able to stabilize direction patterns at different frequencies for each of the ports for the sake of phase distribution in… Show more

“…The array has an AR bandwidth of 4.3 GHz from 3 to 7.3 GHz which is wider than AR bandwidth reported in refs. [2–8]. The gain was measured using the comparison method where the power of reference horn antenna and antenna under test were calculated separately.…”

“…Modern wireless communication, mobile satellite services, radar tracking, and weather radar systems use popular printed microstrip antenna arrays. This is because of the antenna's attributes of small size, ease of realisation and matching with circular polarisation (CP) [1,2]. CP features at antenna introduces different types of advantages over linear polarisation specification.…”

“…In Chauhan et al 4 and Dehnavi et al 5 structures of these designs are introduced Butler matrix is the most cost-effective approach for extending intelligent antennas systems. [6][7][8] If the design of the feeding network was in a way that four orthogonal phases, that is, 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270°, were achieved CP property increases dramatically. On the other hand, if the antenna element has CP feature the overall 3 dB axial-ratio bandwidth (ARBW) increases acceptably.…”

“…The slot antenna schemes are usually implemented by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed and a microstrip topology. In Chauhan et al 4 and Dehnavi et al 5 structures of these designs are introduced Butler matrix is the most cost‐effective approach for extending intelligent antennas systems 6–8 . If the design of the feeding network was in a way that four orthogonal phases, that is, 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270°, were achieved CP property increases dramatically.…”
