"Circular type" quantum key distribution

Abstract: Circular type' interferometric system for quantum key distribution is proposed. The system has naturally self-alignment and compensation of birefringence and also has enough efficiency against polarisation dependence. Moreover it is easily applicable to multi-party. Key creation with 0.1 photon per pulse at a rate of 1.2KHz with a 5.4% QBER over a 200m fiber was realized.

“…There are significant theoretical developments and experimental schemes demonstrated, to name a few of them, see, e.g., [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] We have complemented and improved performance of QKD network over existing demonstrations in several aspects. This mainly includes all-pass optical switching, novel QKD terminals, 60∼130 km inter-city links, with the help of scalable hybrid network topology.…”

“…Like the "plug & play" system, the Sagnac loop also offers phase stability and polarization stability, as the two interfering signals travel through the same path, but its structure is in principle much simpler than the "plug & play" scheme [10][11][12][13]. However, all reported Sagnac QKD systems employed polarization-sensitive phase modulators, requiring complicated polarization controls, which makes this scheme unattractive.…”

Nishioka expressed the possibility of constructing multiparty architecture by extending one to many link architecture and looped networks [4].
