Circular RNAs play an important role in late-stage gastric cancer: Circular RNA expression profiles and bioinformatics analyses

Abstract: Gastric cancer is one of the most common tumors of the digestive system. Here, analysis of the expression profiles of circular RNAs in advanced gastric adenocarcinoma and adjacent normal mucosa tissues revealed differential expression of 306 circular RNAs, among which 273 were predicted to exert regulatory effects on target microRNAs. The downstream pathway networks of circular RNA-microRNA were mapped and the node genes were identified. In particular, we found that the expression of hsa_circ_0058246 was eleva… Show more

“…23 Also, hsa_circ_0058246 was found to be upregulated in gastric cancer (GC) and associated with tumor recurrence. 24 In addition, increasing studies have shown that circRNAs may serve as important regulators in various cancers. [25][26][27] However, the novel circRNAs and the function they played were still needed to explore.…”

“…Recently, several studies showed that circRNAs could be utilized as potential biomarkers for the prediction of tumor recurrence. For example, the expression of hsa_ circ_0058246 was statistically significantly increased in patients who suffered from the recurrence of gastric cancer (GC) [ 41 ]. In another study, patients with lower levels of circPVT1 in GC had a significantly shorter progression-free survival (PFS) than those with high levels of circPVT1, indicating that circPVT1 might be a biomarker for tumor recurrence [ 42 ].…”

“…CircRNAs are formed by back-splicing covalently joined 3’- and 5’-ends (Zhang X. et al, 2017 ) and play a role in several cellular functions, including protein binding, RNA transport, and the regulation of translation (Zhang X. et al, 2017 ). Recently, it has been suggested that circRNAs play a critical role in late-stage gastric cancer (Fang et al, 2017 ). However, the influence of circRNAs in glioma needs further investigation.…”
