Circular RNA mitochondrial translation optimization 1 homologue (CircMTO1) induced by zinc finger protein 460 (ZNF460) promotes oral squamous cell carcinoma progression through the microRNA miR-320a / alpha thalassemia/mental retardation, X-linked (ATRX) axis

Abstract: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common cancer types of head and neck cancer, accounting for 95% of all cases. However, the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of OSCC remain unclear. Circular RNA (CircRNA) has been extensively studied in the past decades and is a promising direction for the development of OSCC therapeutic targets. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of circMTO1 in OSCC progression. First, we validated the characterization and expression of circMTO1 in OSCC… Show more

“…The genes with the highest degree in the Co-DEmiRNA-Gene network include ZNF460 , FBN1 , CDK6 , BTG2, and CBX6 , which may be the essential hub genes/mediators between OSCC and PD. ZNF460 (zinc finger protein 460) is involved in the regulation of multiple cancer processes by JAK2/STAT3 pathway [ 39 ], and its high expression is associated with the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of colorectal cancer and oral cancer [ 39 , 40 ]. FBN1 (fibrinin-1) is a common extracellular matrix encoding gene [ 41 ], and inactivation will affect the integrity of tissues (aortic wall, periodontal membrane, oral epithelial barrier, etc.).…”

“…Some emerging circRNAs acted crucial characters in OSCC progression. For instance, circRNA mitochondrial translation optimization 1 homologue promoted OSCC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in vitro via miR-320a/alpha thalassemia/mental retardation, X-linked (ATRX) axis [ 31 ]. Circ_0005320 silencing impeded OSCC growth in vivo and in vitro by sponging miR-486-3p and miR-637 [ 32 ].…”

“…The tumor-promoting effect of circMTO1 is also documented in oral squamous cell carcinoma. 32 The circMTO1 knockdown represses chemoresistance, migration, and invasion of CCCs. 33 Our study initially analyzed the diagnostic value of circMTO1 for CC.…”
