“…The unstiffened, as well as stiffened CFDST columns, have been analyzed with the finite element analysis (FEA) method using (ABAQUS, 2014). This method has also been used in previous studies while investigating the behavior of CFDST columns (Elchalakani et al, 2019;Ghannam and Metwally, 2020;Huang et al, 2010;_ Ipek et al, 2021;Tao et al, 2009). This methodology is preferred due to its effectiveness in studying strenuous structural elements such as, uncommon sections and member sizes, that are not even available in the market and require a lot of effort in construction and testing, under different loading conditions.…”

“…In circular-circular CFDST slender columns, subjected to axial load, with stiffeners of different shapes (profiles) in the outer tube as well as in the inner tube, a 15% increase in load carrying capacity has been observed (Ghannam and Metwally, 2020). However, circular CFDST columns, with stiffeners in inner tubes only and FRP outer tubes exhibited 23%-34% enhanced ultimate load-carrying capacity with an increase in ductility of 33.30%-66.70% (Huang et al, 2020;Zakir et al, 2021).…”

“…For DSTA bridges, the bond between the steel tube and the concrete is of great importance to ensure the composite action between the two. The steel tube-to-concrete bond may be improved by shear connectors which can also serve as the stiffeners to the steel tube to enhance its buckling capacity (Huang et al, 2020; Peng et al, 2018). The connectors may also enhance the confinement to the concrete and play a role in the connections between different components/members if designed properly.…”

“…Huang et al performed a study on behavior of double‐skin column specimen consisting of outer FRP casing and inner steel casing reinforced with vertical stiffeners under compression loading 39 . The specimens with stiffeners performed well than normal specimens without any stiffening scheme in regard of both strength and ductile behavior.…”
