circFBLIM1 act as a ceRNA to promote hepatocellular cancer progression by sponging miR-346

Abstract: BackgroudAccumulating evidences indicate that circular RNAs (circRNAs), a class of non-coding RNAs, play important roles in tumorigenesis. However, the function of circRNAs in hepatocellular cancer (HCC) is largely unknown.MethodsWe performed circRNA microarrays to identify circRNAs that are aberrantly expressed in HCC tissues. Expression levels of a significantly upregulated circRNA, circFBLIM1, was detected by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) in HCC cell lines and tissues. Then, we examined the functions… Show more

“…For example, hsa_circ_0061140 regulates the miR‐370 /forkhead box M1 pathway to promote the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition and thus enhances the growth and metastasis of ovarian cancer cells . circFBLIM1 can act as a competing endogenous RNA to regulate the expression of filamin binding LIM protein 1 through sponging miR‐346 in hepatocellular carcinoma . Similarly, circGFRA1 regulates the expression of glial cell‐derived neurotrophic factor family receptor‐α1 through sponging miR‐34a to exert regulatory functions in triple‐negative breast cancer .…”

“…MiR‐346 acts as an important oncogene in breast cancer, osteosarcoma (OS), and hepatocellular cancer (HCC) . Interestingly, miR‐346 was reported to functionally target GSK‐3β, a negative regulator of canonical Wnt/β‐catenin signaling .…”

“…Cyclum performed the best in this analysis (Figure 4a and Additional file 1, Table S2), even on samples that reportedly had few cycling cells (e.g., Mel79). Among the novel cell-cycling genes nominated by Cyclum (Additional file 1, Table S2, Figure S3, and S4), KCNQ1OT1 and FBLIM1 (Additional file 1, Figure S3, and Table S3) have recently been shown in the literature to be related to proliferation and tumorigenesis [21][22][23][24][25][26].…”
