CircCCDC66: Emerging roles and potential clinical values in malignant tumors

Abstract: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are endogenous non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) with a closed-loop structure. In recent years, circRNAs have become the focus of much research into RNA. CircCCDC66 has been identified as a novel oncogenic circRNA and is up-regulated in a variety of malignant tumors including thyroid cancer, non-small cell carcinoma, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, renal cancer, cervical cancer, glioma, and osteosarcoma. It mediates cancer progression by regulating epigenetic modifications, variable splicing… Show more

“…CircCCDC66, also named circ_0001313, is a novel oncogenic circRNA due to the enrichment in a variety of tumors. The current studies about circCCDC66 mainly focus on the expression, biological functions, and regulatory mechanisms in the diagnosis prediction, prognosis assessment, and molecular treatment of various cancers ( 32 ). As reported, circCCDC66 promotes thyroid cancer cell proliferation, migratory and invasive abilities, and glycolysis through the miR-211-5p/PDK4 axis ( 33 ).…”

“…The circular RNA (circRNA) CircCCDC66 has attracted interest because of its possible function as a regulator of cellular activities. A closed-loop structure emerges from the CCDC66 gene, setting it apart from its linear RNA homologues [ 99 ]. Exploring the roles and interactions of CircCCDC66 gives vital insights into the complex world of non-coding RNAs and their influence on cellular physiology and disease, since circRNAs are becoming more recognised as key participants in gene expression control [ 100 ].…”

“…CircRNAs are less susceptible to degradation by RNase R due to their lack of 3′and 5′ends, which confers a longer half-life and stability than other noncoding RNAs or mRNAs, suggesting the possibility of circRNAs as indicators for clinical testing. CircRNA as a liquid biopsy indicator has been frequently mentioned in tumor studies ( Li et al, 2022a ; Wang et al, 2022a ; Ruan et al, 2022 ; Xue et al, 2022 ). CircRNA was detected in cartilage, synovial fluid, and serum in OA patients and was different from the control group, suggesting that it is an indicator of early diagnosis of osteoarthritis.…”
