Abstract: Circadian organization comprises both hierarchical and distributed pacemakers, as well as peripheral oscillators that are coordinated by the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN). Among the peripheral tissues that are coordinated by the SCN is the gastrointestinal system via the sympathetic nervous system.
