Cinnamaldehydes in Cancer Chemotherapy

Abstract: Cinnamaldehyde and cinnamaldehyde-derived compounds are candidates for the development of anticancer drugs that have received extensive research attention. In this review, we summarize recent findings detailing the positive and negative aspects of cinnamaldehyde and its derivatives as potential anticancer drug candidates. Furthermore, we describe the in vivo pharmacokinetics and metabolism of cinnamaldehydes. The oxidative and antioxidative properties of cinnamaldehydes, which contribute to their potential in … Show more

“…Our data show that HCA also inhibits the STAT3 activity by directly binding to STAT3 (Figures C and ). Furthermore, preclinical evaluations of HCA show that HCA is a safe and potent anticancer agent . Therefore, our results suggest that HCA could be a potent anticancer agent targeting STAT3‐activated tumor cells.…”

“…However, as the concentration within the fibres increases from 6 to 12 g/24 mL, there is enhanced potency in the anti‐fungal activity as confirmed by larger inhibition areas (722 ± 32 and 873 ± 39 mm 2 , respectively). Extracts of cinnamon contain several active compounds including cinnamaldehyde and tannins . Tannins are known to inhibit growth of certain bacterial strains such as Staphylococcus aureus .…”
