“…Because of its predominant expression in testis, we conclude that testes are also exposed to electrophilic adduct-forming pyrene sulfates by uptake via SOAT. This uptake might even be related to the well known risk of testicular cancer in tobacco smokers (37).…”

“…More recent analyses have implicated KITLG, SPRY4, and BAK1 as sporadic testicular cancer susceptibility loci (19). Currently, medical literature does not support an association between alcohol consumption and testicular cancer, however, one previous study offered evidence of an association between smoking and moderate risk of TGCT (20,21). Based on a previous epidemiological analysis, marital status was an independent predictor factor of improved overall survival and cancer-specific survival (22).…”

“…The only notable association was reported in a recent study that examined duration of smoking and pack-years of smoking and reported significant increased associations of two-to threefold greater for TC in those in the highest exposure categories compared to nonsmokers (Srivastava & Kreiger, 2004). Mechanisms that were suggested to explain a potential association include a direct carcinogenicity of cigarette smoke or a modifying effect of cigarette smoke on sex hormones.…”

“…The association between smoking and TC, as with maternal smoking during pregnancy and TC, is inconsistent (Coldman et al, 1982;Gallagher et al, 1995;Henderson et al, 1979;Srivastava & Kreiger, 2004;Thune & Lund, 1994;UKTCSG, 1994a).
