Chrysin suppress immune responses and protects from experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in mice

Abstract: We investigated the effects of chrysin in the experimental autoimmune encephomyelitis (EAE), a multiple sclerosis (MS) animal model. EAE was induced using myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) 35-55 peptide in C57BL/6 mice. Chrysin reduced weight loss, attenuated clinical signs and blunted the EAE-induced increase in histone deacetylase (HDCA) activity, glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) levels and pro-inflammatory cytokine levels as well as in the EAE-induced decrease in histone acetyltransferases 3 and… Show more

“…Chrysin (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg) improves cognitive capacity, inflammation, and apoptosis to ameliorate traumatic brain injury (TBI) [ 78 ]. Overall, the literature confirms the health-promoting and therapeutic effects of chrysin that are important in disease therapy, and the effect of this valuable compound on molecular pathways ( Figure 2 ) [ 79 , 80 , 81 , 82 ]. In the next sections, we specifically discuss the role of chrysin in cancer therapy [ 83 , 84 ].…”

“…Chrysin is a natural compound found in flowers, such as passion fruit and trumpet flower, and foods such as mushrooms, honey, and propolis. Studies report numerous potent activities related to this compound, such as antiinflammatory, antioxidant, anti-allergic, anti-hypertensive, and anxiolytic (Del Fabbro et al 2019;Veerappan, Malarvili 2019). Therefore, the presence of these compounds may contribute to the hypoglycemic effects demonstrated in the present study.…”

“…We determined seven potential therapeutic targets for the NIM function of LWDH in this study, and the results are listed in Table . AKT1 and PIK3R1 are important members of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, which has been found to play a critical role in many physiological and pathological processes in the central nervous system. The PI3K/Akt signaling pathway can also affect lymphocyte function, regulate immune defects and immune disorders, , and affect the survival of pancreas islet β cells and insulin secretion. GSK3B is a serine/threonine protein kinase that can modulate immune diseases such as chronic leukemia and autoimmune diseases, , affect Alzheimer’s disease by suppressing tau protein expression, and regulate thyroid function . MAPK9, an important protein kinase in the MAPK signaling pathway, is involved in regulating neurological diseases like epilepsy and cognitive impairment, immune diseases like leukemia and type 1 diabetes, , and metabolic diseases like nonalcoholic fatty liver disease .…”
