Chrysin protects against renal ischemia reperfusion induced tubular cell apoptosis and inflammation in mice

Abstract: Renal ischemia reperfusion (IR) is a major cause of acute kidney injury with no effective treatment. Chrysin is an anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-cancer agent. However, the effect of chrysin on renal IR injury remains unknown. In this study, sham operation, IR and IR+chrysin group mice were treated with or without renal IR injury. For renal IR, bilateral renal pedicles were clamped for 30 min and then released for 48 h of reperfusion. Blood and kidney samples were collected for analysis. Results demo… Show more

“…IL‐6 level decreased in T‐2h/D‐24h + CR group with chrysin administration. This result supports previous studies (Wu et al., 2018; Xu et al., 2019). The IL‐10, an anti‐inflammatory, level increased in the torsion/detorsion group compared to the control group.…”

“…CR administration was performed half an hour before detorsion. The dose of CR was determined on the basis of reports from previous studies (Durak et al., 2016; Wu et al., 2018; Xu, Shi, & Liu, 2019) Torsion 2 hr/detorsion 24 hr + 50 mg/kg IP CR administrated group (T‐2h/D‐24h + CR group): Treatments were similar to T‐2h/D‐2h + CR group. The only difference is the detorsion time.…”

“…One of the complications causing neuronal cell death is ischemic-reperfusion (I/R) injury. Inflammation and oxidative stress are two main mechanisms involved in I/R injury [ 73 , 74 , 75 ]. Chrysin administration (10 and 20 mg/kg) reduces pro-inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) and oxidative stress to alleviate cerebral I/R injury.…”

“…Research in recent years has demonstrated that Chrysin has a wide range of anti-inflammatory effects. Chrysin improves allergic inflammation; 29 inhibits ocular inflammation; 16 reduces arthritis, 17,18 specific dermatitis, 30 colitis, 31 and LPS-induced inflammation; 32,33 and reduces kidney, 34 myocardium, 35 and brain damage 36 caused by inflammation. Therefore, Chrysin, as a widely used anti-inflammatory drug, has the potential to reduce osteoarthritis.…”
