Chryseobacterium pennipullorum sp. nov., isolated from poultry feather waste

Abstract: Strain 7_F195T was previously isolated from chicken feather waste collected from an abattoir in Bloemfontein, South Africa. A polyphasic approach was followed to determine if strain 7_F195T belongs to the genus Chryseobacterium and if the organism can be classified as a new species. The nearest neighbours, based on 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values (indicated in parentheses), were … Show more

“…The genome of strain 1_F178 T was sequenced and assembled as described by Oosthuizen et al . [ 11 ]. Assembly of reads resulted in 88 contigs with a total sequence length of 6.18 Mbp and a G+C content of 36.6 mol%.…”

“…At the time of writing (October 2019), the genus Chryseobacterium contains 113 validly published species (http://www.bacterio.net/chryseobacterium.html) with Chryseobacterium gleum as the type species. These many species of the genus have been isolated from a variety of environmental sources such as soil, rhizosphere, freshwater, water of a reservoir, wetland, plants, and animal sources including raw cow’s milk, chicken, poultry feathers, fish and clinical samples [2–14]. The general characteristics of the genus Chryseobacterium are as follows: Gram-stain negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, non-spore-forming and yellow-pigmented.…”
