“…Interestingly, in this study, angiogenesis and antimicrobial (against S. aureus or S. epidermidis ) mechanisms concur to the wound healing process, reaching a degree of wound closure of 97% after 14 days. Similarly, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory activities were analyzed in the evaluation of a multifunctional CH-based hydrogel loaded with Ag nanoparticles and Calendula officinalis L. [ 74 ]. This device was proposed in the treatment of patients with diabetes type II and the recorded results highlighted a significant improvement in both healing on vascular injuries, due to the ability of the patch to stimulate fibrinolysis and healing and reducing the possibility of infection.…”

“…The quaternized chitosan (QCS) component also has antibacterial ability. In a study by Rodriguez-Acosta et al (2022) , chitosan-based hydrogels loaded with silver nanoparticles and calendula extract (Ch-AgNPs-Ce) were developed, and as in a previous study, these chitosan hydrogels reduced the bacterial load at the wound site.…”

“…The polymers mentioned in this review mainly include oxidized chondroitin sulfate-polypyrrole (OCS-P) ( Fan et al, 2022 ) and dopamine (DA) ( Chi et al, 2022 ) for vascularization; anti-inflammatory bioglass (BG) ( Li S et al, 2022 ) and chitosan ( Lee and Lin, 2022 ); antibacterial carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) ( Ji et al, 2022 ), quaternized chitosan (QCS) ( Pan et al, 2022 ), polyaniline-grafted quaternized chitosan (QCS-P) ( Wu J. H et al, 2022 ), and chitosan (CS) ( Rodriguez-Acosta et al, 2022 ); antioxidant polyurethane (PUAO) ( Shiekh et al, 2020 ); and oxidized chondroitin sulfate-polypyrrole (OCS-P) ( Fan et al, 2022 ) and polypyrrole (PPy) ( Liu H et al, 2021 ) for nerve regeneration. From these studies, we can easily see that components such as chitosan have shown powerful effects in antimicrobial therapy and that polypyrrole, as a conducting polymer, showed nerve regeneration and vascularization effects.…”

“…The combination group and laser alone group had statistically better results[ 100 ]. Chitosan based hydrogels loaded with calendula have been studied with promising results[ 101 ].…”
