Abstract: Histoplasma capsulatum is a fungal organism that causes systemic histoplasmosis. It is commonly asymptomatic in healthy immunocompetent individuals. The clinical symptoms of chronic cavitary histoplasmosis are typically seen in the immunodeficient population, particularly in smokers with preexisting structural lung disease.
