“…It was agreed that phototesting should ideally be undertaken on clear skin and that topical corticosteroids and systemic immunosuppressants should be avoided where feasible. Topical corticosteroids can suppress UV‐induced erythema and prednisolone, even at 10mg orally, may suppress CAD photosensitivity and is best avoided for at least a week prior to testing 12–15 . The effects of other immunosuppressants on phototesting are unknown, although it seems prudent to avoid immunosuppression where possible.…”

“…It is usually seen in the back of the hands, nose, forehead, scalp and top of the ears. 1 Differential diagnostic features of CAD include photo testing, patch testing/photo patch test and biopsy. All CAD patients should be informed to avoid UV exposure and contact with associated allergens and photo allergens.…”

“…Chronic Actinic Dermatitis is defined as the persistent eczematous eruption which mainly affects photo exposed sites with the evidence of broad-band photosensitivity. 1 It is a rare and severe idiopathic photodermatosis classified under the term immunologically mediated photodermatosis. It typically affects men in the fifth decade of life or older and is characterized by pruritic eczematous and lichenified plaques sharply defined to sun exposed areas.…”

“…TO THE EDITOR Chronic actinic dermatitis (CAD) is an uncommon photosensitivity disease, characterized by a photoexposed site dermatitis that may be severe and disabling (Kerr and Ibbotson, 2006) (Supplementary Figure S1 online). Objective evidence of broadband photosensitivity to UVB and often also UVA and visible wavebands is evident and most patients also have multiple contact allergies (Frain-Bell et al, 1974).…”

“…The condition occurs worldwide, although it is more common in temperate climates and typically develops in middle-aged to elderly males. Most individuals have a history of a preceding dermatitis, either atopic, contact allergic, or seborrhoeic, although it can occur de novo (Frain-Bell et al, 1974;Hawk, 2004;Kerr and Ibbotson, 2006). Resolution of photosensitivity is reported in up to 50% of individuals after 15 years or more, with contact allergies persisting (Dawe et al, 2000).…”
