Chromium (VI) photo‐reduction under visible and sunlight irradiation over bismuth‐ferrites Bi2Fe4O9 photo‐catalyst

Abstract: The photo‐catalytic reduction of Cr(VI) in aqueous solution was investigated over spinel ferrites Bi2Fe4O9 photo‐catalyst under both visible and solar light irradiation. The material was prepared by a low‐cost method and characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive x‐ray (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). Electrochemical and photo‐electrochemical studies of the material were also explo… Show more

“…As compared to the nanostructured Bi, W and Cu-containing photocatalysts and heterojunction photocatalysts reported in the recent years, CBTO prepared by the improved protocol performs favourably in terms of low catalyst loading, short reaction time to reach 100% Cr( vi ) photoreduction for comparable initial Cr( vi ) concentration, and low concentration of hole scavenger needed to achieve fast photoreduction (Table S1†). 3,16,30–34 In general, the CBTO photocatalyst particles show superior performance compared to other single-material photocatalyst particles, and comparable performance to heterojunction photocatalysts.…”

“…The third one accrued agri‐food and plant valorization contributions (free‐radical anthocyanin oxidation, synthesis of agro‐based surfactants, rare‐earth toxicity in horticultural plants, and extraction of cereal wax‐like components). Finally, the fourth topic included contributions on a few aqueous‐based environmental and mineral processing methods (methyl violet by low‐cost waste, chromium sunlight photocatalytic reduction, and gold dissolution from silver‐bearing sulphide mineral ores).…”
