“…Chromium is a common heavy metal naturally occurring in soil, plants, animals and gases (Pandey and Madhuri, 2014). It exists mainly in two valence states: trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) and hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) (Genchi et al, 2021).Although Cr(III) is essential for human and animal diet, with little or no toxicity, its hexavalent form Cr(VI) is 100 to 1000 times more toxic (Stoecker, 2004). Cr AIM OF THE WORK Based on the above literature, the current study was designed to elucidate the possible beneficial effect of selenium on structural damage induced by PDC on the epididymis, prostate and seminal vesicles, and to investigate the underlying mechanistic role of oxidative stress, NF-κB modulation and autophagic responses.…”

“…Chromium is found in many compounds of the Earth's crust (Stoecker, 2004). It exists in several oxidation states, but Cr III and Cr VI species are the most stable and common forms (O' Brien et al, 2003).…”

“…Chromium III is essential for human and animal diet, it is poor soluble, with little or no toxicity. In its hexavalent form chromium is 100 to 1000 times more toxic than the most trivalent compounds (Stoecker, 2004).…”

“…It is well-known that Cr can exist in a series of oxidation states (−2 to +6); among these, trivalent (Cr-III) and hexavalent (Cr-VI) compounds are thought to be the biologically most significant. Because of its strong oxidizing property, Cr-VI is believed to be 100–1000 times more toxic than the trivalent form (Cr-III) (Stoecker, 2004; Von and Liu, 1993). The acute and chronic effects of Cr have already been reported including dermato-toxicity, neurotoxicity, genotoxicity, immunotoxicity, and carcinogenicity (Li et al, 2011).…”
