Chromium(III) Ion Selective Electrode Based on Oxalic Acid Bis(Cyclohexylidene Hydrazide)

Abstract: A poly(vinyl chloride) membrane sensor based on oxalic acid bis (cyclohexylidene hydrazide) as membrane carrier was prepared and investigated as a Cr(III)-selective electrode. The electrode reveals a Nernstian behavior (slope 19.8 AE 0.4 mV decade À1) over a wide Cr(III) ion concentration range 1.0 Â 10 À7 ± 1.0 Â 10 À2 mol dm À3 with a very low limit of detection (i.e., down to 6.3 Â 10 À8 mol dm À3). The potentiometric response of the sensor is independent of the pH of the test solution in the pH range 1.7 ±… Show more

“…It can be seen in Table 1 that transition and heavy metal ion sensors reported include a PMME (polymeric memberane microelectrodes) for Y 3+ [60], three PMEs [61,63,64] and one CGE [62] for Vanadyl ion, eight PMEs for Cr 3+ [65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72], one of which could also be used in the CGE mode [70], and two Fe 3+ PMEs based on 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)-21H,23H-porphyrin [73] and 2-[(2-hydroxy-1-propenyl-buta-1,3-dienylimino)-methyl]-4-p-tolylazo-phenol [74].…”

“…The recommended potentiometric sensor could also be used successfully for the direct and indirect determination of free iron species in some different synthetic and real samples with satisfactory results. We have recently reported the successful use of some PVC based membrane sensors for the different cations such as Zn 2+ , Cu 2+ , Pb 2+ , Cr 3+ , Al 3+ and zirconium ion based on different neutral ionospheres [17][18][19][20][21]. In this study, we were also motivated to investigate the fabrication and characterization of a new ISE based on 1,1 -(iminobis(methan-1-yl-1-ylidene))dinaphthalen-2-ol (IBMYD) as a suitable ionophore (Fig.…”

“…Literature surveys reveal that there is a small number of publications on various electrodes sensitive to different chromium species and these mainly concentrated on Cr(III) species [9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. As to satisfactory studies on the construction of appropriate electrodes for Cr(VI) species, they are even fewer [16][17][18][19][20][21].…”
