Chromatin textural parameters of blood neutrophils are associated with stress levels in patients with recurrent depressive disorder

Abstract: Introduction/Objective During the past 20 years, there have been numerous attempts to design and apply a simple, affordable blood analysis tool for diagnostic and prognostic purposes in psychiatry. In this article we demonstrate that some mathematical parameters of chromatin organization and distribution in blood neutrophil granulocytes are related to stress levels in patients diagnosed with recurrent depressive disorder (RDD). Methods The study was performed on 50 RDD participants who were asked to complete D… Show more

“…The current research is the continuation of our previously published study on the association between neutrophil chromatin textural features with psychological stress in patients with recurrent depressive disorder (Pantic et al, 2019). In that study, we performed GLCM analysis of chromatin structures of neutrophil granulocytes stained by applying a conventional Giemsa method.…”

“…This tool has so far shown good psychometric properties such as validity and reliability both in mentally healthy population samples and in psychiatric patients. The scale was successfully used in the previous research on depression in clinical conditions (Pantic et al, 2019). For the details on DASS-21, the reader is referred to the previously published works (Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995; Beaufort et al, 2017; Scholten et al, 2017; Lee, 2019).…”
