Choroidal Metastasis Revealing a Lung Adenocarcinoma: A Case Report

Abstract: Choroidal metastasis is the most common malignant intraocular tumor. Its diagnosis in a patient with known lung cancer is usually easy. However, without any context of already known cancer, further elements are needed to guide the diagnosis. We report the case of a 47-year-old patient with a history of smoking who presented a choroidal metastasis of left lower pulmonary lobe adenocarcinoma discovered on imaging. Imaging techniques, mainly ultrasonography, CT scan, and MRI can help guide the diagnosis of choroi… Show more

“…Rarely patients with advanced stages of lung CA remain asymptomatic and presents only when they noticed visual disturbances consequent to choroidal metastasis. Our patient presented with this very rare presentation of lung CA despite being much younger (age 32 year) than previously reported 58 patients (range 36-77 year) [4] , [5] , [6] , [7] . This fact validates the necessity of prompt and priority-based evaluation of patients for lung CA whenever doubtful intraocular lesions are noted, regardless of age or smoking status.…”

“…Recently, Singh et al analyzed previously reported cases of symptomatic choroidal metastasis in the English language literature and identified only 55 cases where choroidal metastasis was the presenting manifestation of lung cancer [4] . Subsequently 03 more such cases were reported each by Babu G et al , Aichouni et al, and Guo et al [5] , [6] , [7] .…”

“…3 CT depicted hyperdense choroidal thickening with contrast enhancement. 10 MRI showed a choroidal lesion that appears isointense on T1-weighted images and hypointense on T2-weighted images. 11 In previous literature, choroidal detachment in CM was a rare occurrence, with 12 cases reported in the past.…”
