Choosing by Advantages; Benefits Analysis and Implementation in a Case Study, Colombia

Abstract: There are many methods of multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA), each one with properties and benefits. In the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector most of the time, the decision-making involve different interest of the stakeholders of the projects, must of the times applying methods with the focus on the result. This paper presents a case study of a new University's facility construction that compares the traditional decision-making approach used in the design-bid-build procurement method… Show more

“…The company is ISO 9001-certified since 2009, which requires the use of standardized routines to manage the quality as part of its processes, including but not limited to the quality of the products and services it provides. Design Science Research (DSR) [33] was the approach used to develop the study, in which the gained knowledge is used to develop valid and reliable solutions to solve problems, create, change, or improve existing solutions; and to generate new knowledge, insights, and theoretical explanations. Therefore, this work developed and adapted instruments to collect and organize data and proposed a method (artifact) to address the problem of assessing and ranking the impact of construction defects [34].…”

“…In the lean world, the LPS for planning and control (Javanmardi et al, 2018, Salazar et al, 2018, Torp et al, 2018, Kim and Ballard, 2010, choosing by advantages (CBA) - (Nguyen et al, 2009), Virtual First-Run Study (Nguyen et al, 2009), Language Action Perspective (Salazar et al, 2018) and BIM (Aslesen et al, 2018) have been widely applied to support planning, control and decision making. The works by Cortes et al (2018) present some interesting perspectives in Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) using CBA in delivering project benefits. However, there doesn't appear any evidence of accounting for uncertainty in the application of the tools.…”
