Choice of Application Layer Protocols for Next Generation Video Surveillance Using Internet of Video Things

Abstract: Video surveillance has become ubiquitous due to the increasing security requirements in every sphere of life. The next generation video surveillance system (VSS) possesses great challenges in various applications, such as intelligent urban surveillance systems and smart cities. In these applications, we need to deal with the fast-growing number of surveillance nodes which introduce several constraints, e.g., high latency, high bandwidth, high energy consumption, and CPU and memory usage. To address these issue… Show more

“…IoT application layer protocols like CoAP, AMQP, and XMPP protocols are infrequent in real-time IoT deployments [217]. Tanin Sultana et al [218] provided a detailed analysis of MQTT, AMQP, DDS, HTTP, CoAP, and DDS protocols using IoVT framework. In this framework, cameras were used to capture real-time data.…”

“…Here we need to detect and response which is very slow with cloud-only computing, therefore, we distribute the work among different fog nodes since they process data at network edge, therefore, it can give a response in less time [5].…”

“…The ultimate objective of the proposed CityAlarm system is to deliver emergency alarms to any number of clients (emergency alarm clients), who can exploit those messages in different ways. To achieve that, after generating an EA, some efficient mechanism has to be employed by the EPU to send emergency alarms to every EAC that is intended to receive them, and there are many possible ways to do that [40].…”
