“…However, routines might be maladaptive if the environment changes (Bröder & Schiffer, 2006). In dynamic situations, it might be helpful to not over-rely on past decisions (McCormick et al, 2022;Rakow & Miler, 2009). The task-change paradigm enables one to study initial experiences' stickiness in dynamic environments.…”

“…We have also found that people explore longer when they encounter a prospect of loss and when they experience stochastic rather than consistent environments (Lejarraga et al., 2012; Mehlhorn, Ben‐Asher, Dutt, & Gonzalez, 2014). Furthermore, in changing dynamic tasks, we find that the direction of change of the value of the options determines how people adapt their decisions over time (Cheyette, Konstantinidis, Harman, & Gonzalez, 2016; Lejarraga, Lejarraga, & Gonzalez, 2014)—for example, when good alternatives become worse over time, people are more capable of adapting their choices to these changing conditions compared to when initially bad alternatives become better over time (Konstantinidis, Harman, & Gonzalez, 2021; McCormick, Cheyette, & Gonzalez, 2021).…”
