Chlorogenic Acid Alleviates Hyperglycemia‐Induced Cardiac Fibrosis through Activation of the NO/cGMP/PKG Pathway in Cardiac Fibroblasts

Abstract: Scope Hyperglycemia‐induced cardiac fibrosis is one of the main causes of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DM). Chlorogenic acid (CGA) found in many foods has excellent hypoglycemic effectiveness, but it is not known whether CGA can improve DM by inhibiting cardiac fibrosis caused by hyperglycemia. Methods and Results Type I diabetic mice are induced by streptozotocin, and after treatment with CGA for 12 weeks, cardiac functions and fibrosis are determined. CGA significantly attenuates hyperglycemia‐induced cardiac fi… Show more

“…At last, it was possible that other pathways had an important influence on the progression of ASFV entry via some biological process, such as cGMP-PKG signaling pathway, cAMP signaling pathway, and AMPK signaling pathway, which were screened out by KEGG analysis. cGMP is the intracellular second messenger that mediates the action of nitric oxide (NO) and natriuretic peptides (NPs), affecting a wide range of physiologic processes ( 22 ). cGMP/PKG signaling pathway was associated with the replication of some viruses ( 23 , 24 ).…”

“…CGA administration attenuated vascular senescence in a dose-dependent manner through the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway and the increase of eNOS expression in an in vivo model [ 39 ]. In Type I diabetic mice, CGA treatment increased cyclic GMP (cGMP) level and activated protein kinase G (PKG) in cardiac fibroblasts by enhancing eNOS activity and NO production, thereby contributing to the inhibition on cardiac fibrosis caused by hyperglycemia [ 40 ].…”
