Chlorine-functionalized reduced graphene oxide for methylene blue removal

Abstract: Chlorine-functionalized reduced graphene oxide was prepared by using graphene oxide and sulfuryl chloride as raw materials. It is firstly reported that the hydroxyl group in graphene oxide can be substituted by chlorine in sulfuryl chloride. The product has a wider pore size and average interlayer space, and its surface area can be easily utilized. The adsorption data indicate that the material has high adsorption capacity on methylene blue. The adsorption process follows a second-order rate and Bangham diffus… Show more

“…Through the acyl chloride formation, the displaced sulfite ion is unstable and decomposes into SO 2 and Cl − . The edges and basal planes of the graphene oxide are functionalized with hydroxyl and carboxylic which explain how thionyl chloride modification takes place [41].…”

“…Beside this, GO shows excellent physicochemical properties when employed in composite solid materials . Graphene‐based composites have many applications in many areas like development of electronic components and capacitors, use in adsorption, and catalysis . Those studies have resulted in an avid interest in the development of 2D nanosheets such as manganese oxide, perovskites .…”
