Los pesticidas son productos químicos que se utilizan principalmente en la agricultura para proteger las plantas de plagas, malezas o enfermedades, y en los programas de protección de la salud pública para proteger a los seres humanos de las enfermedades transmitidas por vectores, como malaria, dengue y esquistosomiasis. El uso persistente y la exposición contribuyen a la contaminación del medio ambiente y del cuerpo humano. La bioacumulación de los plaguicidas organoclorados en el tejido adiposo desencadena la excreción en la leche materna durante la lactancia. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica de artículos originales escritos en español o inglés. La búsqueda se realizó en las bases de datos Medline, Science Direct y Epistemonikos. No se hicieron restricciones respecto al tipo de estudio. Por ser la leche humana el alimento idóneo para el neonato, es fundamental analizar los factores que determinan la presencia de residuos y contaminantes en la misma. El presente trabajo tiene la finalidad de permitir la comprensión de este importante tema, así como incentivar a la investigación clínica en el medio local debido a la incidencia de uso de mencionados productos y plantear intervenciones para evitar consecuencias en la salud pública.

The presence of hazardous chemical compounds in foods is a growing concern in almost every country. Although some toxins come from microbial contamination, a major part comes from residues of pesticides used for plant health and food preservation. Despite plans to decrease their use, the concentration of hazardous residues encountered in food is growing. The societal solution to this issue is to find alternatives to chemicals and replace the most hazardous by biodegradable, fewer toxic compounds. However, as this greener transition takes some time, any transitory solution to decrease the risks of contamination is welcome. Among them, the stimulation of microbial pesticide degradation in food in a similar way to bioremediation in the environment would be very positive. In this review, we present the problem of food contamination, focusing on organophosphates and organochlorines, and the various possibilities of microbial decontamination. We discuss the possible use of microbial biocatalysts as a biopreservation tool. We conclude that, although this process is very promising, it lacks research taking into account the various degradation products and the elaboration of screening procedures able to choose some rare, efficient biopreservation strains.

One hundred samples of mother breast milk were gathered from six middle governorates and districts in Jordan in 2013/2014 to monitor Organochlorine pesticides pollutants. The results showed clearly that banned organochlorine pesticides are still detected in the monitored samples in low concentration despite banning of these persistent pollutants in Jordan since 36 years ago. However, the results indicated that 1% of the contaminated samples contained β-HCH, 5% γ-HCH, 3% p,p'-DDD, 2% heptachlor, 45% p,p'-DDE and 3% p,p'-DDT. In addition, these monitored samples had no residues of aldrin, dieldrin, α-endosulfan, β-endosulfan, HCB, o,p'-DD, o,p'-DDT and o,p'-DDE. In conclusion, there was a decline in the residues of Organochlorine pesticides, particularly DDT group members.
