Abstract: Ozone is commonly used as a predisinfectant in potable water reuse treatment trains. Nitromethane was recently found as a ubiquitous ozone byproduct in wastewater, and the key intermediate toward chloropicrin during subsequent secondary disinfection of ozonated wastewater effluent with chlorine.
