Chitosan/TPP microparticles obtained by microemulsion method applied in controlled release of heparin

Abstract: This work deals with the preparation of chitosan/tripolyphosphate microparticles (CHT/TPP) using microemulsion system based on water/benzyl alcohol. The morphology of the microparticles was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The microparticles were also characterized through infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS). The morphology and crystallinity of microparticles depended mainly on CHT/TPP ratio. Studies of controlled release of HP were evaluated in distilled water a… Show more

“…CS microparticles were dissolved in different solvents like water, ethanol, phosphate buffer saline (PBS pH 6) and acetic acid at the concentration of 1 mg ml -1 and used to study the drug release kinetics. Absorbanace at 425nm asymmetric stretching vibration of the PO 2 groups), 1090-1115 (symmetric and asymmetric stretching vibration of the PO 3 groups) and 880-895 cm -1 (P-O-P asymmetric stretching) (Mi et al 1999;Martins et al 2012) (Fig. 1a, c, e).…”

“…TPP concentration might have influenced the shape variations. Martins et al (2012) found that CS/TPP molar ratio at pH 5 favored the formation of more compacted particles, whereas CS/TPP molar ratio at pH 2 did not favor the formation of small particles as well as those formed were irregularly shaped large clusters. Therefore, the CS/TPP ratio and the pH clearly influenced the size and porosity of CS/TPP particles.…”

“…Interactions between the chitosan and ionic crosslinkers occurred through electrostatic interactions, which involve protonated of the amino group of chitosan and the negatively charged anionic group of TPP and sulfate. 7,20,21 Nanoparticles were then dried and characterized to investigate the physical characteristics and magnetic properties of each material with various composition ratio and crosslinking time. (Fig.…”

“…46,47 All other remaining spectra showed a broad O−H stretch peak at ∼3425 cm −1 and peak at ∼2900 cm −1 for the C−H stretch. CM-β-CD sodium salt (Figure 2b) had bands at 1419 and 1602 cm −1 corresponding to the symmetrical and asymmetrical stretching vibration of the carboxylate groups, respectively.…”
