Chitosan Nanoparticles Potentiate the in vitro and in vivo Effects of Curcumin and other Natural Compounds

Abstract: : The development of biodegradable nanoparticles is an important tool for the biological transport of chemical compounds. The nanoencapsulation reduces the biopharmaceutical and pharmacokinetic drawbacks of compounds and enhances their biological properties. Naturally occurring polymers such as proteins and polysaccharides have been widely applied in the development of nanostructured systems of several therapeutic agents. Among them is chitosan, a crustaceancarapace-chitin derived biopolymer. In addition to it… Show more

“…Nanotechnology was utilized to increase the solubility and efficacy of natural plants. Chitosan is a widely used polymer in drug delivery compounds with an acceptable safety profile [13][14][15]. Although some research has been carried out on gold nanoparticle synthesis using the bark and leave extract of Salix alba [16,17], no one reports the synthesis of nanoparticles using S. subserrata stem bark extract.…”

“…In recent years, the study of the therapeutic benefits of natural bioactive substance-based nanomedicine in the treatment of various diseases, including respiratory viral infections, has attracted more and more attention [ 129 , 130 , 131 , 132 , 133 , 134 , 135 ]. These pathologies are characterized by acute or chronic inflammatory processes and high oxidative stress in which medicine based on nanotechnology and natural compound association seems to have a promising future [ 91 ].…”
