Chitosan as a Capping Agent of Silver Nanoparticles

Abstract: Silver nanoparticles have been developed in many applications because of their optical and reactivity properties. One of the disadvantages of silver nanoparticles is their low level of stability because their surface is easy to aggregate. It is necessary to have other materials such as chitosan as a capping agent on the surface of silver nanoparticles to prevent aggregation. This study aimed to determine the ability of chitosan as a capping agent for silver nanoparticles. The ability of chitosan was evaluated … Show more

“…From the study of Badi'ah [51], the success of stabilization AgNPs and chitosan can confirm by FTIR. The FTIR peak between chitosan and AgNPs-chitosan had an absorption band of -OH groups in 3427.62 and 3448.84 cm −1 , respectively.…”

“…The interaction of the analyte with chitosan is predicted by hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions. So, with the presence of analytes, AgNPs-Chitosan aggregation is induced and results in visible color changes as Badi'ah [51] used it for colorimetric detection of sialic acid. Other compounds, for example, are dopamine [10][11].…”

“…The results of synthesis using microalgae C.vulgaris with the amount of 3.0, 5.0, and 6.0 g/L produced different solution colors, such as bright brown, brown, and dark brown, respectively, as shown in Figure 1. The color change of resulted solution occurs due to the plasmon vibrations excitation on the nanosilver surface 34) . This color is similar to the results of nanosilver synthesis using fruit extract 35) .…”

“…Today, chitosan has been widely applied commercially to the chemicals, foods, and pharmaceutical industries (Li et al, 2007). For example, chitosan has been an adsorbent for heavy metals (Bijang et al 2021;Rahayu et al, 2020;Tanasale et al, 2018) and a capping agent for nanoparticles (Badi'ah, 2021). Due to its special properties such as mucoadhesive, biocompatible, biodegradable, non-toxic, and low levels of immunogenicity, chitosan is a very promising biomaterial for its use as a carrier in drug delivery systems (Mardliyati et al, 2012).…”
