Chitooligosaccharides promote radiosensitivity in colon cancer line SW480

Abstract: COS can inhibit the proliferation of SW480 cells and enhance the radiosensitization of SW480 cells, inducing apoptosis and G2/M phase arrest.

“…Chitosan oligosaccharide was found to reduce the development of cancer cells, tumor growth, and the metastatic potential of gastric cancer. Interestingly, chitosan oligosaccharide increased the radiosensitivity in colon cancer cells (Fernandes et al 2012;Han et al 2016;Kim et al 2012;Luo et al 2014). Nascimento et al (2014 have studied about the development of epidermal growth factor receptortargeted chitosan (EGFR-targeted chitosan) nanoparticles to Fig.…”

“…The concentrations of SCFAs and the abundances of Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria were significantly increased in the cecum of mice treated with COS (Pan et al, 2009). COS are also effective against various cancer cells in vitro , such as prostate, lung, hepatocellular, gastric and colon cancer cells (Park et al, 2011; Han et al, 2015, 2016; Ryu et al, 2017). However, the relationship between the anti-tumor activities of COS and its effects on bacteria in vivo remains unclear.…”

“…25,26 The COS have been proven to promote radiosensitivity by accelerating cell apoptosis in colon cancer. 8 However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of COS are rarely mentioned. We first measured the toxicity of COS to SW480 cells, revealing that survival rates decreased significantly as concentrations of COS grew.…”

“…Chitooligosaccharides (COS) have been reported to be an anticancer factor, which can also raise the radiosensitivity of colon cancer. 8 However, the mechanism of COS in mediating the radiosentivity of colon cancer is unclear. Therefore, functions of COS at the molecular level were explored in this study.…”
