Chiral Selector with Multiple Hydrogen-Bonding Sites in a Macrocyclic Cavity

Abstract: Chiral macrocycles with the hydrogen bond donor/acceptor sites in the cavity were synthesized and covalently bonded to silica gel to give chiral stationary phases (CSPs), which showed excellent abilities to resolve various chiral compounds, such as benzoin and Co(acac)3, in HPLC. Various organic solvents could be used as the mobile phase to optimize the resolution efficiency of CSPs, and in some cases, even MeCN, MeOH, and CO2 could be used for the complete resolution of enantiomers.

“…As has been eluded to throughout this review, asignificant part of this interesti sd riven by the highly promising medicinal properties of macrocycles. [10] However,i ti sa lso important to recognise their importance in many other scientific fields;a pplications of functionalised macrocyclesi nc atalysis, [101] materials science, [102] chiral sensing, [103] self-assembly [104] and nanotechnology [105] are all well established. Much of the groundbreaking supramolecular chemistry,t hat has become so important in recenty ears, also very often relies on the construction of carefully designed macrocyclic scaffolds.…”

“…These polymers have high chemical stability and excellent solubility in organic solvents such as CHCl 3 and DMF. Furthermore, we developed aromatic polyketones containing optically active macrocycles [9][10][11][12][13] composed of 1,1¢-binaphthyl-2,2¢-dioxy units. 14,15 These macrocycle-bearing polymers have adequate thermal and optical properties and solubility for use in engineering applications.…”
