Chiral Plasmonic Nanostructures on Achiral Nanopillars

Abstract: Chirality of plasmonic films can be strongly enhanced by three-dimensional (3D) out-of-plane geometries. The complexity of lithographic methods currently used to produce such structures and other methods utilizing chiral templates impose limitations on spectral windows of chiroptical effects, the size of substrates, and hence, further research on chiral plasmonics. Here we demonstrate 3D chiral plasmonic nanostructures (CPNs) with high optical activity in the visible spectral range based on initially achiral n… Show more

“…Optimized assemblies (Figures S8a,b), for which synthetic conditions were tuned to increase particle dimensions, have an absolute g-factor up to ~0.04 (Figure S8e), which, to our knowledge, is one of the highest reported to date for comparable nanoparticle assemblies. 9, 13, 14, 45 …”

“…As illustrated in Figure 3b, the coupling between charge carriers of achiral ZnO nanopillars and gold chiral shell resulted in chiral signal of achiral ZnO nanopillars. [78] The handedness of chiral gold nanocluster can be "transferred" to its adsorbate achiral molecule, and Figure 3c is the schematic of Au 38 (2PET) 24 nanocluster. [79] In this ensemble, the interaction between achiral molecules and chiral gold nanostructure broke the mirror symmetry, resulting in the chirality of molecules.…”
