Chiral or achiral: four isomeric Cd(ii) coordination polymers based on phenylenediacrylate ligands

Abstract: Four isomeric coordination polymers of formula ijCdIJL)IJH 2 O) 2 ] n (L = ppda and mpda) were synthesized from two isomeric dicarboxylic ligands, p-phenylenediacrylic acid (H 2 ppda) and m-phenylenediacrylic acid (H 2 mpda). With the linear ppda ligand, compounds 1p and 2p crystallizes in centrosymmetric space groups, whereas the V-shaped mpda ligand induces spontaneous resolution to generate chiral crystals of 1m and 2m crystallized in chiral groups. Compounds 1p and 1m contain zigzag and helical ijCdIJL)] n coor… Show more

“…The INligands associated with the adjacent 1D secondary building units (SBUs) resulted in a three-dimensional (3D) chiral MOF with a pcu framework containing irregular channels. A few more new studies on spontaneous resolution have been reported [75][76][77][78][79].…”

“…Our growing interest in the rigid p-phenylenediacrylate, lies on its ability to form coordination polymers with diverse architectures, promising role as photocatalysts in dye degradation and the use of Na 2 BDA (BDA-benzenediacrylate) and Li 2 BDA as organic battery electrode materials with excellent initial coulombic efficiency. [29][30][31] With the surge in industrialization causing environmental degradation, there is an urgent need to sequester such anions by binding them to a tunable synthetic recognition system. Bearing these notions in mind, we embarked on the synthesis of a new Co(II) anion receptor, [Co(phen) 3 ](ppda) ⋅ 14H 2 O 1 showing potential antimicrobial efficiency against bacterial and fungal pathogens.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, there is no explicit report on the literature citing utilization of [Co(phen) 3 ] 2+ as a binding agent for p ‐phenylenediacrylates employing the second sphere coordination. Our growing interest in the rigid p ‐phenylenediacrylate, lies on its ability to form coordination polymers with diverse architectures, promising role as photocatalysts in dye degradation and the use of Na 2 BDA (BDA‐benzenediacrylate) and Li 2 BDA as organic battery electrode materials with excellent initial coulombic efficiency [29–31] . With the surge in industrialization causing environmental degradation, there is an urgent need to sequester such anions by binding them to a tunable synthetic recognition system.…”
