Chiral duals of non-chiral SUSY gauge theories

Abstract: We study N = 1 SUSY gauge theories in four dimensions with gauge group Spin (7) and N f flavors of quarks in the spinorial representation. We find that in the range 6 < N f < 15, this theory has a long distance description in terms of an SU (N f − 4) gauge theory with a symmetric tensor and N f antifundamentals. As a spin-off, we obtain by deforming along a flat direction a dual description of the theories based on the exceptional gauge group G 2 with N f fundamental flavors of quarks.6/95

“…Inserting these field decompositions into (5.6), we recover the quantum relation det m − b i m ij b j = Λ 10 7 in Pouliot's model from the first constraint in W N f =5 [16], while the second identically vanishes. These results provide strong consistency checks on the N f = 5 SO (9) theory.…”

“…The symmetry breaking information displayed in (2.4) allows one to readily count the gauge invariant operators that act as coordinates on the moduli space of degenerate vacua for small numbers of vector flavors [16,22]. In Table 1, we list the initial parton matter degrees of freedom, the unbroken color subgroup and the number of matter fields eaten by the superHiggs mechanism as a function of N f .…”

“…The quantum numbers for those matters and for the dual dynamical scaleη of the SU(N f − 3) gauge group are listed in table 3. This dual was first found by using the Seiberg duality of the 4d N = 1 Spin(7) gauge theory with spinorial matters in [30]. By giving a vacuum expectation value to the spinorial representation, the G 2 Seiberg dual is obtained.…”

“…The presence of the fractional power leads to branch cut singularities on the moduli space of vacua, and so it signals that new massless degrees of freedom should be added to this effective description. Thus, we expect that an interacting SCFT appears at the origin of the moduli space, and probably we would have some Seiberg dual descriptions similar to the 4d dual [30].…”
